About the Author


Beth Purkhiser maintains a large studio of saxophone and clarinet students from beginners through adults in Lafayette, Indiana. Originally from Monticello Indiana, she spent 2 years playing lead saxophone with Doc Severinsen in the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra before moving back to Indiana. Still an active performer, she plays in the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, Lafayette Citizen’s Band, “Joy of Sax” Saxophone Quartet, Indianapolis Saxophone Quartet, Lafayette Wind Quintet, and various jazz groups throughout Indiana. Beth received a Bachelor of Music degree from Indiana University in Saxophone Performance and won the Arizona State University Concerto Competition while pursuing her Master of Saxophone Performance degree there. Her teachers have included Larry Teal, Joseph Wytko, Daniel Deffayet, and Eugene Rousseau. She is featured with Rousseau in the “Yamaha Steps to Excellence” video series.
